Worship & Music

  • Music provides opportunities to hear the gospel with various senses. Some of the most faith-building times of the church occur through music.
At Saint James, we feel called to use all of the skills and resources available to offer ourselves in song through many genres and styles.
  • Currently our Music Director position is filled on a seasonal basis.  There is an active adult handbell choir, and several individuals who lead our congregational singing in both solo and small ensemble basis. As COVID-19 begins to subside, plans are underway to re-build choirs, ensembles, and other musical leadership. If you have musical talents and passions to offer to God, you are encouraged to speak with Pastor John. Together we can build a wonderful musical ministry.
  • In the Gospel of Matthew, Jesus offers us the two most important commandments given by God. First is to “…love the Lord your God with all your heart, soul, and mind.“
Worship is a central and integral part of faith formation at St. James. During our time together in worship, we come before God to confess our sins, and to hear and be assured of God‘s forgiveness and mercy.
Our worship is a time to offer our thanks and praise to God for the grace, love, and mercy that God shows us daily. We hear God’s word proclaimed, we are strengthened and nourished by the sacraments, and we are sent into the world to continue our worship as we share with others in our own communities.
  • Worship is Sunday, at 10:00 a.m., with Holy Communion celebrated weekly. Worship is liturgical – meaning “work of the people.” Various lay ministers serve as worship leaders: reading of Scripture, singing, assisting with communion distribution, etc. Musically, we use a blended form of worship using many styles and genres. Most of our services will utilize music and liturgies from the Evangelical Lutheran Worship hymnal.
  • Special worship times are usually held during the Lent and Advent seasons, as well as Christmas Eve, Holy Week, and Easter.
